The workshop, organized by Fraunhofer IAPT, was initially scheduled to take place during the APS Meetings 2020 event and will now be held online, on May 18, 2021
It implies getting inspired by nature-inspired solutions, in order to answer a specific industrial challenge.
Many bio-inspired innovations are aimed at improving existing products or industrializing new products and processes through 3D PRINTING.
The workshop will start with some explanation on what is Biomimetic Design and how this is connected to Additive Manufacturing.
Then Jochen Loock will show shortly some case studies to illustrate the benefits of Biomimetic design: cost saving, weight saving, improvement of products function.
Then an introduction on how to apply easily the biomimetic design method practically is given. Based on this method a practical example from engineering with a mechanical problem is introduced to the participants. The participants will form virtual groups and apply the given knowledge to find solutions from nature to solve the technical problem. The solutions will be presented afterwards to the workshop group !
In the end the participants will learn how to apply biomimetic design method easily to practical, mechanical problems.
